Growing up in a musical house, Ricky developed an OBSESSION with music at a very early age. He started playing the guitar at age 11 and was listening to artists like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Eric Clapton.
He played in a couple bands throughout school and his passion for music grew. His musical taste also grew and he began listening to a lot of the house music that was becoming so big in South Africa at the time. A few of his friends had bought turntables and were beginning to DJ. All it took was one night of messing around on the decks at one of their houses and he was hooked. He had his own set of decks a week later.
His early style of djing predominantly consisted of deep house, but it quickly grew to include other genres such as downtempo, lounge, funk, soul, tech, prog. His first few gigs included sets at Mo\'s in Norwood and Who Zoo in Fourways.
After school, Ricky lived in London for 2 years and held a residency in a popular Covent Garden cocktail bar/ nightclub called The Langley. Since returning home he has built a successful career as a dj and rocked many parties. He is currently a resident at the Crazy 88 in Norwood and at Sudada in Sandton. He has also played several sets at Fuel Café, Capellos, News Café, Ku-de-ta and Cofi and has played alongside many of SA\'s top artists, including Goldfish, Dj Fresh, Ricardo Da Costa, Shaun Duvet, Dean Fuel and Lady Lea. On top of the club and bar work, Ricky also does lots of corporate and private dj work.
Corporate clients include Nedbank, Standard Bank, Deloitte and Touche, Jupiter Drawing Room, Discovery, Softline Pastel.
He has played for just about every type of crowd imaginable and has a great ability to read any crowd and always rock the party. He even plays a great rock and commercial set. He still plays the guitar and is currently learning jazz with legendary guitarist Jonathan Crossley. He hopes to one day incorporate his guitar in his dj work and also bring out some of his own music.
This is one artist to definitely look out for...
